Being nominated for an Oscar is the greatest honor for anyone in the film industry and winning the award of course has it’s benefits. But did you know that even if you don’t win, you walk out with a swag bag full of goodies. These bags usually include the latest electronic gadgets, beauty products, even vacations! Totally jealous!
We’re thrilled to announce that at this Sunday’s Academy Awards, these swag bags will include a piece of jewelry from the SNÖ of Sweden Collection! The stars will be able to wear the “Sparkly” bracelet by SNÖ of Sweden which features three strands of mother of pearl and an wooden clasp. I love the the edginess the over-sized clasp give to the bracelet and your outfit. These bracelets are available in three colors at Ice – sparkly tan, white & fuchsia.
After Sunday’s Oscar awards you’ve without a doubt heard about how purple was the hot color on the red carpet. In my opinion, Mila Kunis wore the color the best in her lilac Elie Saab gown. Another favorite was the two-toned Dolce & Gabbana worn the always stunning, Scarlett Johansson. Academy Award winner Natalie Portman also chose a plum toned dress for the event.
All this purple has got me thinking that I need to add more to my wardrobe but how much purple can you possibly have in your closet? Instead of wearing the color in a dress or blouse, add hints of purple in your jewelry like this Amethyst & White Topaz ring (pictured). This gorgeous cocktail ring would not only add the perfect hint of color to your outfit but it won’t hurt the bank either at only $50. A pair of Amethyst studs are also a subtle way to add a violet splash to your look.
Will you be following the red carpet trend by adding purple to your wardrobe?
As we thought it might be, The Kings Speech was the big winner on Oscar night. I think that war-era femininity might be responsible for the resurgence in lace this year, such as on Mila Kunis, Amanda Seyfried, Madonna at the after-party and, most notably, Scarlett Johansson who just. Looked. Amazing. I know some in the blogosphere are torn about this one, but I loved it. Despite all the yelling paparazzi, screaming fans and flashing cameras, Scarlett somehow always manages to look totally relaxed on the red carpet, like she was born to be there.
Despite The King’s Speech impressive influence, The Black Swan seemed to make the biggest fashion-impression this year – and I’m holding it responsible for the reserved palate of colors we saw. Other than a few ladies in red (Sandra Bullock, we love you!), it seemed like everyone was in variations of black/grey or white/beige. Not only that, did you notice a number of gowns were decked out in feathers and feathery fabrics (Hilary Swank, Naomi Watts, Sharon Stone, Halle Berry and others).
For the most part, jewelry was kept simple and classic, with a perfect pair of diamond studs appearing over and over. It’s a good reminder that when you’ve got fancy fabrics or necklines going on, it’s wise to let your jewelry be an accessory, not a distraction. And you can never, ever go wrong with a pair of diamond studs.
One noteworthy jewelry statement was made by hostess Anne Hathaway, who let her baubles match her bubbly personality with an attention-grabbing cocktail ring. I found 5-carat rock version for an easy $45. Nothing will make you feel more outrageously glamorous for a better price.
We can always count on the British film icon Helen Mirren to dazzle us with her red carpet jewelry. She loves wearing big bold necklaces as she did this past Sunday at the 83rd Academy Awards but the look we want from the actress is her drop (dead gorgeous) earrings.
As we pointed out already in our previous post, earrings were the hottest accessory at the Oscars this year. Dame Helen Mirren wore some of the most glamorous earrings of the night featuring diamonds and pearls. She pulled this look off exquisitely with her cropped cut and gorgeous charcoal Vivienne Westwood gown.
The 83rd Academy Awards were held last night and we couldn’t be more excited to tune in to see all the glamorous fashion and jewelry. One piece of jewelry that we think shined the most were earrings. The Ice.com team discussed our favorite earrings this morning and some that we wish the starlets would have reconsidered.
Emeralds: Reese Witherspoon and Annette Bening both wore dark gowns with vibrant green emerald earrings. Reese’s Neil Lane emeralds were highlighted nicely with her high ponytail. Both Reese and Annette’s drop earrings closely resembled Angelina Jolie’s famous emeralds she wore to the Oscars in 2009. You can get the look for less with these green Amethyst drop earrings.
Colorful Gems: Gwyneth Paltrow was a favorite amongst many in her Calvin Klein silver sleek dress and colorful Louis Vuitton multi-gemstone earrings and brooch. We’re unsure of what the exact design is but the colors are gorgeous with her skin tone.
Dangle Earrings: The newly slimmed down Jennifer Hudson looked ravishing in her tangerine Versace gown. She paired it with long diamond dangle earrings that looked lightweight and comfortable. She was definitely a fan favorite of the night.
Tassles: The biggest jewelry surprise was probably Oscar award winning actress Natalie Portman’s maroon Tiffany & Co. tassel earrings. The consensus at the office is that they were a miss for us but a few of our Twitter followers disagreed that they were a hit. What do you think?
Disappointment of the night: Marisa Tomei is a favorite actress to many, including Lady Gaga who recently said she would want Marisa to play her in a movie of her life. We are not only disappointed in her choice of gown but I wonder, what was she thinking putting those earrings on? Would you wear these flower themed gemstone earrings?
Other honorable mentions were Mila Kunis’ diamond and platinum Neil Lane ribbon earrings, Jennifer Hudson’s long drop earrings and Oprah Winfrey’s fabulous diamond earrings.
What were your favorite jewelry looks on the Oscars red carpet?
As the Academy Awards quickly approach we can’t help but reminisce about the memorable jewelry worn by red carpet beauties over the last few years. We’ve drooled over plenty of Oscar jewelry – but we narrowed it down to five favorites for the sake of this post.
Amy Adams dazzled in an elegant red gown paired with a bold multi-gemstone necklace. This eye-catching piece featured 39 carats of diamonds, and 630 carats of sapphires, emeralds and rubies. Oh my!
Nicole Kidman may be beautiful but she tends to fade in the background with her typical black or pale colored gowns. At the 2008 Oscars she took her standard black attire and added a jaw-dropping 1,399-carat diamond necklace to spice up her look. One thousand three hundred ninety-nine Carats!! Don’t you just love the lives of the rich and famous?
Sandra Bullock won the Best Actress award at the Oscars last year and wins the Best Earrings Award from Ice.com. The combination of her gown, vibrant red lips and hair positioning made her earring stand out in the most elegant way. So simple, so perfect.
Angelina Jolie wore magnificent 115 carat emerald drop earring and matching 65 carat ring at the 2009 Oscars. This is my personal favorite Oscar jewelry memory. Hoping Angelina will top this look at the 2011 awards ceremony on Feb. 27th.
I may not have been around to watch the 1970’s Oscars but after doing some research I couldn’t help but admireElizabeth Taylor’s69 carat pear-shaped diamond necklace. These days most actresses borrow their jewels from designers for the night but Mrs. Taylor pulled this stunner out of her personal jewelry box.
What are some of your favorite jewelry from past Oscar red carpets?
Now, down to business. The 83rd Academy Awards will be aired on Sunday, February 27 – which leaves us a perfect amount of time to start thinking of how to dazzle our friends at Oscar parties. Even if that Oscar party consists of you, your family and big bowl of popcorn in your living room, it feels like an event when you dress up for it.
The Oscars always call to mind the glitz and glamor of Old Hollywood, and for that reason, there’s never been a better excuse to go glam. My favorite way to instantly glam-ify is with hair pulled up and a killer pair of dangly earrings.
Given all the buzz around Black Swan, I suspect we’ll see a resurgence in black and white on the red carpet. With that in mind, I’m thinking black danglies are a sure bet. I’ve rounded up a few options for your perusing pleasure.
Early this morning, actors and filmmakers were anxiously awaiting the announcement of the Academy Award nominations. Although we are excited about hearing the nominations, we can’t help but get antsy about what the stars will wear! Isn’t that why everyone loves to watch the Oscars anyway?
We are most excited about Natalie Portman‘s nomination for Best Actress in Black Swan. We predict she will have a custom-made simplistic maternity dress, paired with extravagant jewels to spice up her look since she’s been shying away from giving too much attention to her baby bump.
Other female nominees we’re excited to see on the red carpet are Amy Adams and we’re hoping Michelle Williams wins us over at the Oscars unlike her child-like floral ensemble at the Golden Globes. Also, Helena Bonham Carter is always entertaining to watch. We wouldn’t necessarily wear any of her clothing choices but appreciate her originality.
Who are you most excited to see on the Oscar red carpet next month at the Oscars? What pieces of jewelry from Ice.com would you put on one of the actresses on the red carpet? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook.
This year at the Oscars, there were loads of interesting looks. The Academy Awards are always a star-studded affair and many celebrities are drenched in borrowed gems for the occasion. You can get a run down of all the best of Oscar night jewelry fashions at Sparkle Like the Stars.
Alas, this year’s event reaffirms that old Hollywood is gone. The days of the likes of Elizabeth Taylor wearing her ownjewelry to an event seem to be long gone.
What hasn’t faded is classic and classy glamour! Helen Mirren is class incarnate. When it comes to the Oscars, she can always be counted on to show up in something subtly fabulous and totally age appropriate. Her lavender gown with the gauzy overlay and sleeves take this dress a notch above average strapless. I absolutely covet that necklace!
Helen’s look is refined and restrained but definitely not boring. You can get a similar look by pouring on the diamonds with a bold and beautiful diamond necklace. If you choose a design that has some larger spacing between the stones you’ll get the effect of a more dramatic piece of jewelry without such a dramatic price tag.
As for earrings, you can’t go wrong with a pair of elegant diamond earrings. Don’t overdo it though with dramatic tear drop or chandelier earrings. Those are great for other occasions but if you want a classic look like Helen’s, you have to keep it simple.
For her ensemble, Helen forgoes a right hand diamond ring and just wears her diamond wedding bands. This is in keeping with the “less is more” refinement of her overall look. Just because it’s a fancy formal occasion, doesn’t mean you have to wear every ring you own. Take a few cues from Helen and you’ll get a sophisticated look all for you own.
