Jason Wu and Giorgio Armani have been featuring them on the runway. Salma Hayek and Kate Moss have been spotted wearing them, but it wasn’t until Carrie Bradshaw donned one in Sex and the City 2 that the unlikeliest of hats has been finding its way back into mainstream fashion.
That’s right ladies and gentlemen, I present you with…..The Turban.
There’s a certain starlet glamor to the turban. They’re mysterious, exotic and understated all at the same time. The whole look harkens back to the golden days of Hollywood in the 1920′s and 1930′s when they regularly appeared on the talented heads of Greta Garbo, Gloria Swanson and Joan Crawford. With a remake of The Great Gatsby coming down the pipeline, I think we have the makings of an all out old Hollywood glam revival on our hands.
For those interested in giving it a try, here’s a handy guide for how to fold your turban.
But now, the questions remains, how does one accessorize such a wrap?
Simplicity, ladies, simplicity.
Small earrings (if any at all) and never large ones or hoops. Otherwise you risk leaving the space of exotic glamor and moving towards gypsy fortune-teller territory.
Necklaces are fine if you keep them simple, but I think the piece that really makes the turban work is a nice bangle bracelet (or 3).
What ever you choose, there’s one rule to fashion that you must keep in mind when wearing a turban. Walk into the room like you own the place, and everyone will think you’re a star.
