When putting together an outfit, many women may be cautious to include large, bold jewels, fearing the baubles will appear over-the-top or ostentatious. But, as we saw on many runways for fall, excess is in.
The runways have been full of floaty dresses and pastel prints, but the jewelry that’s poised to become popular in the coming seasons is anything but subtle.
Here are three essentials that every girl should outfit herself with before heading out to frolic in the sunshine.
1. A long statement necklace. You know that we have been singing the praises of statement necklaces for a while, but a long, grounding chain will be key for any ladies who don’t want to look like they wandered off the set of a Disney movie in one of the season’s girlish frocks. Go for a simple thick chain or spice things up with a long layered necklace embellished with gemstones.
2. A chunky watch. We prefer gold watches, because it’s coming back in a big way and has a vintage charm, but if you’re a silver or stainless steel girl, go for it. Just choose a timepiece that will add a hip edge to your more feminine pieces.
3. Bold earrings. If you prefer chiffon or silk ensembles, large earrings with enamel embellishments in floral designs will be the perfect complement to your style. And this season, you can feel free to go as bold as you want (within reason . . . if they’re bigger than your fist you might have taken things a little too far!).
Don’t get pinched this Saint Patrick’s Day; be sure you’re wearing some green! While an entire green outfit might make you look like a Christmas elf rather than a harbinger of spring, it’s easy to add just a touch of green with the right accessories.
You could really get into Saint Patrick’s Day with a clover design sterling silver pendant. Polished green agate and diamond accents in this pendant won’t pinch your wallet either at just $85.
When lots of folks think of green jewelry they think of emeralds. Emeralds have a beautiful, intense and radiant green. The green of the emerald is the color of life and of springtime. They’re definitely a great way to add green to any outfit this spring.
For a fresh and modern look this Saint Patrick’s Day, you could try a less traditional gemstone like green chrome diopside. Lush green tones sparkle gorgeously in this elegantly unusual diopside pendant. While perfect for springtime, this pendant’s bright green color will carry you right into sunny summer days. Honestly, it would even be a great choice for parties. It’s definitely a versatile piece for your jewelry collection.
I was recently out and about at a charity art auction and spotted the women pictured here and her great outfit. I spoke to her and she said that she bought her dress at a local thrift shop! Can you imagine? That dress was such a find! Even though she’s already super skinny, the dress fits her well because the waistline rests right at her thinnest area. The way the dress gathers at the waist poofs out the dress a bit and hides any hippy imperfections she might have. The clingly black top is also very slimming. The hemline accentuates her long legs. It’s a great look!
She pairs this classy look with a multiple stand pearl necklace with a dramatically large clasp. It’s a great way to add presence to a relatively simple ensemble. A pearl ring is a great way to complete the look. While pearls are relatively delicate gems and needs special care, they make for really unique rings.
Of course, you don’t have to stick to a traditional white pearl necklace. Dusky and dramatic, black pearls are the perfect look for someone who craves opulence and intrigue. Black pearl jewelry is a great addition to you jewelry collection. It’s perfect for an evening out!
Colorful baubles have been popping up everywhere for the past few weeks, and it seems likely that bright gems and sparkly embellishments will continue to be popular over the next few seasons.
One of our favorite ways to wear the cheerful trend is on deco-inspired pieces, like Chanel’s jewel-encrusted enamel bracelets.
The bangle bracelets feature a Maltese cross design based on the one that the Duke of Vendura designed for Coco Chanel in the 1930s.
Though the specific bracelets might be a little busy looking for some, we love the general idea. The solid, architectural look of vintage pieces gives a little weight to what might otherwise be a superfluous look.
Deco is also traditionally pretty sedate when it comes to colors, so a pop of purple or bright yellow offers a twist on graphic patterns and geometric shapes.
Pair an enamel and gemstone accessory with anything from a cocktail dress to a pair of jeans. It will give your outfit a bright pop of color and a little bit of an edge.
Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday” which is the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of Lent. I know you’ve heard about people giving up fun foods or bad habits for Lent. For lots of people Mardi Gras means wearing masks and costumes, overturning social conventions, dancing, and parades – parades with beads as prizes! We were out on the town this Mardi Gras season and caught these ladies enjoying themselves at a Mardi Gras party.
Mardi Gras doesn’t have to mean cheap, plastic beads though. For just a little dough you can get in the Mardi Gras spirit in style with necklaces like this lepidolite bead necklace. This necklace is on sale right now for just $40 – marked down from $95! Purple is one of the signature colors of Mardi Gras and this necklace has 13 deep purple to pale pink colored lepidolite beads.
Green is another big color for Mardi Gras parties. Next year you can be prepared for all the Mardi Gras festivities with a peridot bead necklace. A bright green peridot bead necklace is a great way to add a touch of green that will take you from Mardi Gras and into springtime which is thankfully just around the corner!
You definitely don’t need a man this Valentine’s Day to make your holiday super special. If the thought of romance turns your tummy, consider doing something nice for yourself. The ladies pictured here are having a fun night out on their own.
Check out the heart pendant on the lady in the middle. She knows that heart jewelry doesn’t have to be sticky-sweet. No, you can use heart jewelry with irony to create a fierce rock ‘n roll look. For the price of a bottle of decent champagne you can get this sterling silver crystal heart pendant – it’s on SALE for just $35.
That sexy, bad girl look only works if you add a little black to your outfit. One way to spice up any occasion is with inky black onyx. A great pick would be this white topaz and black onyx sterling silver pendant. It’s also on sale – priced at just $47.50. This trendy over-sized pendant will help you shine at your next party or special occasion. Its bulky look makes a big impression and gives you that edge without having to take out a mortgage.
Goodness! This February sure has been a rough weather month for many parts of the country. You may very well be reading this today from the comfort of you home and enjoying a “snow day” from work. Considering all this cold weather, this Valentine’s Day you may be tempted to give one of those “blankets with sleeves” that strangely have sold like hotcakes this year. Well, save your money! Nothing warms the heart and soul like a thoughtful gift of jewelry for Valentine’s Day.
So, instead of frumpy lounge wear, get your sweetheart a gift from the heart. A red enamel heart pendant is just the thing. At just $50, it won’t break the bank either. The round cut diamond on this heart pendant add a special sparkle to any outfit.
The one thing Jewelry and the you-know-what have in common is that they’ll always be the right size (although it is possible that your lady may think the gemstones and diamonds should be bigger!) Do yourself a favor and cross the “will it fit” worries off your list. If your sweetheart has a more sophisticated style, take a look at this freshwater cultured pearl and carnelian bracelet. This chunky bracelet is perfect for daytime wear but will add a touch of sexy red to an evening ensemble too. Can we say “Date Night”?
For the ultimate red jewelry for Valentine’s Day, you have to go for rubies. Get in good with a gift of this ruby sterling silver heart pendant. With 20 bright red rubies, this pendant shows up a dozen red roses any day.
This week in our effort to bring you jewelry styles and trends we’ve spotted On the Street, we caught a few young ladies who were enjoying a night out on the town in style. The friend in the middle stepped out wearing the classic combination of black and white. This sophisticated combo is great for a formal event but can also be a good choice for trendy settings.
A great pairing for a black and white ensemble is a pearl necklace. Pearls make your outfit look more formal and are a great choice for the workplace. To mix it up a bit you can select a necklace with both black and white pearls like the lady pictured here. This is a great “going out” look and looks great with your little black dress. A third option is black and white diamonds. Those sparklers would really get you some attention!
No matter what jewelry you choose, the black and white combination is a classic that you’ll be able to wear year after year. The versatility of black and white jewelry make it a “must have” for any jewelry collection.
What are the ladies on the CW’s "One Tree Hill" accessorizing their killer outfits with? Some gorgeous, beaded necklaces by up-and-coming designers, it seems.
Twenty pieces designed by amateur jewelry makers Madilynn Nelson and
Julie Little made it onto several episodes of the hit show’s latest season.
Nelson is a painter, and Little is an architect, and both ladies seem to have brought their creative expertise to their unique designs.
"We really do more one-of-a-kind stuff, weird, deconstructed pieces," Little said.
The pretty and edgy designs were the perfect addition to the well-dressed characters’ wardrobes, but we think that real-life girls would look great in similar pieces, too.
The website reports that the line boasts colored pearl necklaces, rough-cut stones and chunky corals accented by – wait for it mink. That’s right, it has finally happened: you can wear fur on a necklace.
Just reading about these fun and creative designs has us itching to buy some new accessories of our own. But we want to know what you think: is fur a genius addition to jewelry or is it still a big no-no?
