Top 5 Engagement Ring Trends

One of the most popular times of the year for marriage proposals is during the Winter so I felt it was fitting to write about the most popular engagement rings trends. Here are my top 5 engagement ring trends that have stood out in 2012 and will carry on to be huge in 2013.

1. Rose Gold: What better way to express the romance you feel for one another with the most romantic metals…rose gold (also known as pink gold). The soft hue of rose gold is stunning and is hugely popular right now. We’ve seen a dramatic spike in brides-to-be requesting rose gold engagement ring and wedding bands. Blake Lively and Leann Rimes are both sporting stunning rose gold rings.

2. Vintage design: For those looking for something a little different yet classic the perfect option is a vintage-inspired art deco piece with intricate details on the band. We love delicate details on the black diamond ring below.

3. Colored Diamonds: White diamonds will always remain the number one choice for engagement rings but more and more brides are falling in love with colored diamonds. Some of the most popular colored diamonds are pink, blue, black and chocolate.

4. Yellow Gold was widely popular in the 80’s and early 90’s but white gold & platinum quickly took over. We’re happy to see it’s making a fabulous comeback. Celebs such as Miley Cyrus and Halle Berry opted for this classic metal. There’s been a huge rise in popularity of yellow gold jewelry such as cuff bracelets, watches and earrings so it’s only normal brides-to-be want their engagement ring to match some of their favorite jewelry pieces.

5. Gemstones: Diamonds are not every girl’s best friends. Many women prefer colorful gemstones instead of diamonds and it’s becoming more and more common to see. Celebs like Jessica Simpson and Penelope Cruz opted for a splash of color on their finger with a ruby and sapphire.

Pink Gold Gets Engaged

Isn’t it refreshing when a new trend comes along that stirs things up. Today, I want to talk about engagement rings and wedding bands. For the longest time yellow gold has rocked the settings of these bridal rings. In the last two two decades there’s been a switch towards white gold and platinum bands. Now, I’m delighted that pink (rose) gold has been sneaking it’s way into the bridal department.

We’ve all been falling in love with pink gold in right hand rings, pendants, bracelets, etc but now it’s making it’s way into engagement rings and wedding bands. Ice carries many pink gold rings featuring pink morganite stones that have been fan favorites for awhile. We’ve been hearing from a lot of our customers that they’ve been using them as engagement rings. We LOVE this idea! So we thought why not add a couple new engagement rings with diamonds set in pink gold.

The first one I want to show you (pictured right) is a stunning diamond ring. The pink gold setting gives it a vintage style yet feels very contemporary since it’s not common which makes this a much-desired style for brides. Our other diamond pink gold ring (pictured below) comes in a set with the wedding band in a much more traditional style. This is for the classic bride that is looking for something a little more unique for her ring without going too out there.

Weekly Roundup: Opals, Engagment Rings & Fan of the Week

I have to say I love talking to the Ice community on Facebook and Twitter. What a great bunch of people we’ve got. The feedback we get is wonderful and I wanted to share some of the most popular conversations with you.

What’s your Style?

Every week we select nine pieces of jewelry and ask our Facebook community to choose which of the items from the theme fit their personal style. This week’s theme was Opal rings – here are the top 3 styles the community voted on.

1. Opal & black diamond white gold ring (pictured ring)

2. Opal & pink sapphire white gold ring

3. Opal & Iolite white gold ring

Favorite Engagement Ring Cuts

We polled our Facebook community this week to asked “My favorite shape for a diamond or gemstone engagement ring is a _____ cut”. Every woman whether she’s engaged, married or single love talking about engagement rings. It’s probably the most important piece of jewelry many of us will own so we can’t help but get giddy over fantasizing what our dream ring would look like.

The women have spoken…55% prefer Princess cut (which is a square shape). I was surprised to see the second most popular cut was Emerald. Not sure if Kim Kardashian’s gigantic engagement ring she received less than a year ago had anything to do with it. Third place was Round cut. I’m happy that it only made it to 3rd so that means less women will have my future perfect engagement ring cut. Hope I didn’t jinx myself by writing it. ; )

Fan of the Week

Congrats to this week’s Fan of the Week – Jessica Humbert! She recently finished nursing school and celebrated with this beautiful pearl set from Ice including a necklace and earrings. “Nothing says classy like pearls! Looking forward to buying more classy jewelry from Ice” said Jessica. Enjoy the jewelry!

Molly Sims Gets Married

It was only four months ago we announced model/actress Molly Sims was engaged and now she’s married! This past weekend the blond beauty married movie producer Scott Stuber in Napa Valley. After seeing her wedding photos in PopSugar I was pleasantly surprised by how simple yet romantic Molly’s wedding day look was.

We’re often used to seeing celebs going over-the-top with their wedding dresses in huge princess-like dresses, showing off lots of skin and pounds of makeup. Molly Sims looked simply breath-taking in an elegant lace Marchesa that hugged her supermodel figure. Her hair was up in a high chignon that allowed her diamond earrings to get some attention. The most attention grabbing jewelry was of course her cushion-cut diamond engagement ring.

The couple looked really happy and cute — giggling and kissing before saying their official I do’s. Celeb guests Fergie, Josh Duhamel and Vince Vaughn attended the wedding. I love that Sims chose a red velvet wedding cake. Yummy!

Sims will be hosting a Project Runway spin-off show called Project Accessories which will be on the search to discover the next big jewelry designer. Can’t wait to see a show all about jewelry!

Congrats to the newlyweds Molly and Scott!

Which Kardashian Are You?

Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie oh my! The sisters were seen together at the Teen Choice Awards this past weekend looking glamorous as usual. It’s always a nice change to see all the sister’s together without a screaming match like we’re used to on their show Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

As you can see from the photo, each of the sisters have their own unique style. Their styles often cross over to each other but they always manage to look different from one another when together. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s done on purpose.

There’s usually one in something short & tight, animal print or bold designs, trendy asymmetrical cuts or pretty & flowy dresses.  From the colorful Louboutins to the perfectly coordinated clutches  to the jewelry they sure know how to accessorize.

One thing we love about the Kardashians is that they are not afraid to go BOLD! They are often seen with stacked bangles, dazzling drop earrings and let’s not forget the ginormous engagement rings Kim and Khloe have been showing off. I particularly loved Kourtney’s dangly earrings in this pic, they reminded me of the Amethyst & Citrine earrings from Ice. This color combination would actually be perfect for Khloe to wear to support her Lakers hubby.

We want to know! Which Kardashian sister is your favorite?

The Duchess in the Princess’ Jewelry

As we know Prince William (now the Duke of Cambridge) gave his then girlfriend Kate Middleton his late mother’s Sapphire engagement ring. He didn’t stop there, he recently gave his new wife Princess Diana’s Sapphire and Diamond earrings. She’s been seen on their tour of Canada and the US sporting them a few times.

These earrings were a favorite of Diana and she was often photographed wearing them over the years. They were originally made as studs but Kate added her own touch to them by turning them into drop earrings. They match nicely with Kate’s engagement ring.

We have very similar earrings to these at that resemble both the original Sapphire & diamond studs and Kate’s updated drop earrings version.

What do you think of remodeling jewelry that was a family heirloom? Would you keep it as is or alter it to fit your personal style?

Nikki Reed’s Unexpected Ring

Twilight star Nikki Reed shocked many American Idol fans when she announced she was dating one of this year’s contestants (and my personal favorite) Ryan McDonald. Now just a few months after dating, they’re engaged!

They look like a genuinely happy couple (as you can see all smiley at the MTV Movie Awards). The ring has been spotted and it’s not the look of a typical engagement ring but we love unconventional rings. The ring showcases five round cut diamonds similar to this ring.

Their first time meeting was actually caught on camera from the red carpet of a movie premiere so we definitely look forward to seeing more of the couple. We really wish them all the best.

Engagement Season: 3 Classic Shapes for Engagement Rings

This princess-cut diamond engagement ring will make any woman say ‘Tis the season to get engaged! After Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton, dozens of celebrities followed suit and slipped on engagement rings as well. Most recently, Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon announced that they’ll soon be saying “I do” with their sweeties, choreographer Benjamin Millepied and agent Jim Toth, respectively.

Men who are picking out sparkling diamonds for their ladies’ left ring fingers may want to select a piece based on the cut of the gemstone, as certain shapes boast great advantages.

1. Princess – This square-shaped diamond contains facets that are angled outwardly in different directions to hide flaws in the stone.

2. Radiant – While this cut boasts the shape of an emerald, the brilliant cut – meaning the gem has a large number of facets – gives it more sparkle.

3. Marquise – The unique shape, which resembles a stretched oval, makes the diamond appear bigger and elongates short fingers.

Of course, those who want a classic ring can opt for a round cut diamond, as the simple stone boasts a beautiful and timeless appeal. Which cut is your favorite?
