Top 5 Prom Jewelry Looks

Prom season is here! Every young girl is scouring to find the most beautiful dress and jewelry to make the boys drool. The options can be overwhelming for a young girl so to save some time I’ll fill you in on my top 5 jewelry picks for prom this year.

1. Drop earrings: A popular hair style for teen girls at prom is to have up-do’s and drop earrings such as chandeliers are a must with this look. The way these earrings sway while you dance the night away will make any girl feel glamorous on this special night.

2. Pearls: Always a classic choice. I find young girls love wearing pearls because it makes them feel older. For a more modern take on pearls, wear long strands of pearls layered over your gown. I love the look of big pearl studs like these diamond & cultured pearl earrings.

3. Bracelets: There’s lots of bracelet choices available and your final selection should depend on your dress. With a simple gown you can dress it up with a sparkly cuff. If you have a short colorful dress I’d play on the youthful look with stacking a few bangles together. For more elaborately detailed gowns  a classy tennis bracelet would be best to not look too flashy.

4. Simple Necklace: Most of the jewelry I’ve mentioned so far are dramatic pieces that grab a lot of attention. Since you don’t want to over-do it I always suggest a very simple pendant necklace. If the rest of your jewelry is very minimalist then you can do a statement necklace.

5. Cocktail Ring: Girls love rings! The bigger the better for prom night. If you are wearing more understated bracelets or none at all I would definitely consider wearing a bold cocktail ring. Don’t forget to get a mani since everyone will have their eyes on your hands.

Top 5 Oscar Jewelry Looks

Even with all the excitement the Fashion Weeks has brought recently, our favorite runway is the Oscars red carpet. Like most of you, I had my eyes glued to the TV last night watching all the beautiful stars strut down the red carpet. Here are our favorite jewelry looks of the night.

1. Choker Necklaces:  One of my favorite looks of the night was shockingly Michelle Williams. The adorable actress hasn’t been choosing the most exciting gowns recently but her coral Louis Vuitton dress with peplum detail was a knock-out! (Style Tip: Peplum waists are THE go-to look this Spring) She didn’t over do it with jewelry but chose a diamond choker necklace and a jeweled bow brooch pinned on her dress. I think a simple pair of diamond studs wouldn’t have hurt but she looks lovely! Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz and Katie Holmes also rocked the choker look. Get the look for less at Ice

2. Over-sized rings: The stars might not have worn huge necklaces or earrings at last night’s Oscars but they made up for it in the rings category. Ladies like their rings big! Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez and Stacey Keibler all wore statement rings that grabbed our attention.

3. Cuffs: The other over-sized look of the night went to cuff bracelets. Gwyneth Paltrow may have had an understated white gown but she still looked elegant and chic with the help of her cuff bracelet and cocktail ring. Viola Davis also paired a wide cuff with her emerald green gown.

4. Drop Earrings: I was expecting to see lots of chandelier earrings as we did at the Golden Globes but instead Hollywood’s beauties opted for drop earrings which are less dramatic but just as stunning. With drop earrings you have the opportunity to show off large diamonds or gemstones. Mila Jovovich, Angelina Jolie and Natalie Portman all looked drop-dead gorgeous in their drop earrings.

5. Sapphires: For the last few years emeralds have been the most popular colored gemstone on the red carpet and it was definitely there this year too but we were thrilled to see sapphires growing in popularity. Another woman who sported the peplum style was the hilarious Tina Fey who opted for a navy blue Carolina Herrara gown. She accessorized this look with blue sapphire chandelier earrings similar to these topaz or tanzanite earrings. Leslie Mann also looks gorg in blue sapphire jewelry.

Zac Posen Gets Our Emmy Vote

Have any of you been attending New York Fashion Week shows? Or following it on Twitter like me? I love all the excitement around all the latest fashion trends hitting the runways. It’s so much fun to see all the glamorous models and beautiful clothes and accessories. One designer I had my eye on was Zac Posen. I managed to get a glimpse of his 2012 Spring Collection and was drooling over the evening gowns that are totally red carpet worthy.

Since the Emmy Awards are this Sunday I thought it might be fun to pick a few of Zac Posen’s gowns and predict who might wear it on the Emmy red carpet. At last year’s Emmy’s Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks wore a feathery lavender Zac Posen gown that definitely turned heads.

Take a look at these gowns and tell us who you can image wearing it at the Emmy’s.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2012 - Zac Posen - Runway

This satin gown, with the combination of bold jewelry has a beautiful old Hollywood feel to it. Stunning. I can see this look on classy stars like Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl or Christina Applegate who will be staring in a new TV comedy Up All Night. Past Emmy winner Claire Danes would also shine in this gown.

This curve-hugging dress has Kim Kardashian or Jennifer Lopez written all over it. However, I wouldn’t mind seeing someone like 30 Rock’s Jane Krakoski or Jennifer Love Hewitt in something like this to change it up.

Even though this is technically a Spring collection, I think this shade of blue is so perfect for Fall. Especially paired with the blue jewels the model is wearing. Would look great paired with London Blue Topaz jewelry I hope someone walks the red carpet with it. I’m picturing some young starlets like Blake Lively or Lea Michelle of Glee. Perhaps even Eva Longoria, she looks ravishing in everything.

I’d love to see Emmy nominees Gwyneth Paltrow or Kate Winslet in this or something similar. A nice cuff bracelet would complete this look.

What do you think of these gowns? Which stars do you predict will wear these looks?

Wear The Nautical Look on Labor Day

The rule is you can’t wear white after Labor Day. We are total rule breakers and encourage you to break this rule BUT if you want to keep with tradition we respect that. Keep the Summer alive with this nautical themed Labor Day outfit. Whether your celebrating the long weekend with a getaway or BBQ with family and friends this outfit is perfect for either.

You can easily get the nautical look by putting on those white jeans one last time this year with a cute striped tank and navy blazer to instantly create the perfect nautical look.

Add a touch of color with your accessories. For this outfit I chose red wedges, sunglasses and a splash of ruby red nail polish. Ice recently launched a collection of cuff bracelets called Tattooed Steel, one of which I added in this Polyvore set that complemented to color palette of this outfit. Also included in this set is the popular London Blue Topaz studs, these are beautiful!

Would you wear this look? Do you have any special plans for the Labor Day long weekend?

The Cuff: Most Practical Bracelet in Your Collection

Even the simplest of outfits can stand out with the addition of a great jewelry piece. One of my personal favorites is the cuff bracelet. The beauty of cuff bracelets is not only their array of unique designs but the ease of wearing them. I love bracelets, I really do, they are probably my favorite accessory but they are a pain to put on sometimes. Ladies, I know you know what I’m talking about – pulling a sweat trying to attach a clasp with one hand. Squeezing a bangle over your wrist on a bloated day. Not fun. This is why I love cuff bracelets. Cuffs have an opening so you can just slip it on with no effort. It’s the simple things in life like this that make me happy. ;)

Enough about my incompetencies with putting jewelry on alone, let’s get back to the beauty of cuffs. They come in elegantly intricate designs that often mimic lacework and floral designs featuring diamonds and other gemstones. I came across a Polyvore set replicating a casual outfit reality star Lauren Conrad was seen in which included a diamond sterling silver cuff. Cuffs are so versatile, perfect for any day or night outfit. Do you have any cuff bracelets in your jewelry collection?

Alyssa Milano Balances One-Shouldered Blouse with Cuff Bracelet

A cuff adds a balancing element. If there were a pill that could make you superhumanly smart, athletic and capable, would you take it?

That’s the premise of the new film Limitless, which premiered in New York City this week. One of the movie’s stars, Alyssa Milano, might not be taking this magical mystery drug, but she certainly knows her fashion! The actress eschewed a traditional dress and went with a one-shouldered, champagne-colored blouse and dark skinny jeans for her premiere outfit.

But if Milano was putting comfort ahead of fashion, you’d never know it. She looked every bit a star with her tousled locks, soft, feminine makeup and an intriguing beige cuff bracelet on her left wrist.

The cuff featured various shades of beige and brown in a triangular, geometric pattern, as well as three clasps that gave it some textural intrigue. It was a perfect match with the rest of her outfit and really helped to balance out the top.
