Anne Hathaway Looking Classy in Lace

At the London premiere of One Day, Anne Hathaway pulled off yet another classic look in a lace capsleeve Alexander McQueen dress. It can be challenging to accessorize lace and most tend to go the safe route with pearls. Which looks great of course but I love Anne’s choice of using bold bangles to compliment her look.

She used bangles in gold hues which also matched nicely with her McQueen tan pumps and ivory & gold clutch. Her diamond stud earrings helped add a little sparkle to the look. Anne’s studs are quite large, so if you’re not ready to make the financial plunge to diamonds you can always replicate the look with CZs.

I have to say, Anne always manages to put together classy looks which is a nice change to see in such a young actress. Props to you Anne!

Have you seen her new movie One Day? We’ve put together a collection of jewelry inspired by the movie for you to check out AND it’s 20% off!

Hits & Misses at the 2011 MET Gala

One of the most star-studded events last week was the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. All of Hollywood’s elite were in attendance and showing off their costumes gowns. The night was hosted by the one and only Oprah Winfrey along with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

The red carpet was filled with A-listers looking magnificent in their designer gowns, often accompanied with the designer themselves. After looking at most of the night’s looks it makes me wonder if the stars  wearing them actually love what they are wearing. For sure, they are uncomfortable such as Beyonce’s skin-tight gown that didn’t leave her enough breathing room to walk up the stairs – she had to be carried by 2 men!

There were a lot of hits and misses of the night that I want to share with you. Tell me what you think.

Ashley Greene, Diane Kruger & Madonna

The Hits:

Twilight star Ashley Greene who is not normally someone I would pick out from the red carpet but she looked so elegant in Donna Karen. Plus, her cuff bracelet is gorgeous!

Diana Kruger was simple and sophisticated in Jason Wu – probably my favorite look of something I would actually wear.

Madonna who is often seen in not-appropriate-for-her-age black attire opted for a blue silk Stella McCartney dress that hugged her body in a classy way. I was quite impressed with her mature look and love her floral jewelry pieces.

Miranda Karr, Serena Williams, Naomi Campbell

The Misses:

These particular women went wrong in white.

Beautiful Miranda Karr recenlty married cutie Orlando Bloom but at the gala she looked like she was wearing Tinkerbell’s wedding dress.

One of these things just doesn’t belong here…Serene Williams does not have any fashion sense with this ensemble. It seems she was channeling the Royal Wedding with her choice of headpiece and the dress is just a mess.

Naomi Campbell should know better being a supermodel to show up wearing something like this.

What did you think of the red carpet looks at the MET Gala?

Congrats to the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge

There you have it, the day has come, Prince William and Kate Middleton, now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are now married! What a thrilling piece of history we just experienced. Didn’t the couple look wonderful and HAPPY? Was so excited for them.

Now first off, the dress, WOW! Kate looked absolutely gorgeous in the Sarah Burton gown from the House of Alexander McQueen. It featured lace applique on the bodice and skirt that was said to be hand made by the royal school of needlework. Definitely my favorite wedding dress of all the Royal Weddings in the past. Kate chose McQueen because she wanted the dress to be both traditional and modern. For those interested, knockoffs of the dress are already being made. ;)

According to The Telegraph, Kate’s “something borrowed” was of course the Cartier “halo” tiara from the Queen made in 1936. Her “something new” were her exquisite diamond earrings – a gift from her parents paired perfectly to match her tiara and dress. They were diamond oak leaves with a pear-shaped diamond drop and a pave set diamond acorn suspended in the centre. They were inspired by the Middleton family’s new coat of arms, which includes acorns and oak leaves. For her ”something blue”, a blue ribbon was sewn into the interior of her dress, while her ”something old” was the traditional Carrickmacross craftsmanship used to create the bridal gown.

I can’t end this post without mentioning the hats! I’ve never seen so many fabulous and outrageous hats at one time. I need to mention the most unusual of the day goes to Princess Beatrice. Her hat already has it’s own @BeatricesHat Twitter account. Amazing!

What did you think of Kate’s dress and jewelry? I hope you all agree that she looked stunning, as did Prince William of course.

We wish the Royal couple all the best and looking forward to see their future together.

P.S Ladies, Prince Harry is still available!

Fashion Advice From: Baristas

Yes, even coffee has style
Yes, even coffee has style
Baristas. They see us bleary eyed in the morning, or bleary eyed staring into our identical macbooks all afternoon. But rest assured, they see much more than that.

I recently had a chat about fashion with Sal, 31, Barista at Jumpin Java cafe in San Francisco.

Here’s what he had to say:

You see a lot of people come through here, what styles are you loving right now?
Truthfully, style is all in the attitude. I can see two people come in wearing essentially the same things, but one person just owns it. That’s the secret, you just gotta own it. Other than that, bright colors are popping back out as we get closer to spring, and I love that.

Do you get to show off your own style at work, and what would you call it?
I call it the IceBreaker. I tend to refashion a lot of clothes I find in my own way, and that can be a great conversation starter, even early in the morning, before people have had their coffee.

Who have been your fashion Inspirations?
Mostly? Vivanne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. Vivianne saw that great punk-rock aesthetic of the 1970’s and took it to the mainstream in a way that was fun and irreverent, but still demanded to be taken seriously. And McQueen was just so inventive. He’d take these traditional patterns and just blow them out and animate them in a way that was so freeing. I’ve learned a lot of the two of them.

What do you think is the best way to incorporate a great piece of jewelry into a fabulous outfit?
Oh honey, when you have a great piece of jewelry, you build your outfit around THAT, not the other way around. Seriously, in my world, jewelry always comes first.

Ok, what kinds of jewelry do you see that are really hot right now?
In a word? Pearls. When I was growing up, pearls were for nice girls and grandmothers, but I’ve really seem them get a total makeover the past while. Particularly colored pearls. These gorgeous young women are coming in with green pearls, pink pearls, purple pearls and totally turning heads. All of a sudden pearls are fun and fresh and funky like they never were before. Who knew?
