As we all know, Oprah’s show is ending and, along with it, an era. Greater minds than mine have pontificated on her influence on television and on women at large, on our collective sense of what it means to live a good life and organize our closets. She is – in a word – amazing.
I know she still has the OWN network, O Magazine and everything else, but she’ll be dearly, dearly missed.
Throughout the 25 years she’s developed an iconic fashion presence. She utilizes bold colors, usually in earth tones. She’s also learned how to dress for her body type in a way that loves, rather than hides, her curves.
For jewelry, she often sticks to earrings that are somehow daring and classic at once. Â She rarely wears necklaces, and so the slight dangle on the earrings creates a nice balance.
The biggest style tip I think I’ve gotten from Oprah, beyond the embrace-your-body message, beyond the classic-is-never-out-of-style aesthetic, is that, no matter what you’re wearing, you look twice as good when you shine from the inside. The smile on this woman is infectious. Her eyes shine with a kind of joy that is what makes her so irresistible to watch. And irresistibly beautiful.
It’s a good lesson for all of us.
Stay tuned today for Oprah’s last show. We’ll be watching…will you?
