Yasmin Gow’s Yoga-Chic Jewelry

Since childhood, I’ve been fascinated by jewelry. Some of my fondest memories are of me trying on my grandmother’s incredible collection of rhinestones, rings, bracelets and necklaces. To this day, my grandmother has such style when it comes to accessorizing. I draw inspiration from her, as I too like to add unique piece of jewelry to otherwise simple outfits. This includes yoga apparel. As a full-time yoga teacher, I wear tights and a tank top everyday, but the sporty athletic look is not for me. I glam up my typical teaching ensemble with a tailored jacket, some bangles, a great necklace and/or a pair of earrings and I’m good to go from yoga class to dinner with friends without a wardrobe change. My ‘yoga-chic’ selection offers some choices for women who, like me, consider jewelry wearable art, but don’t want it to interfere with their daily comings and goings.

The pieces I pulled together are not only beautiful and unique, but also easy to wear.

Here are some of my favorites:

Diamond and Rose Gold Bird Pendant: (pictured right) This piece best encapsulates what I have come to love about yoga as method of self-discovery. In so many ways, yoga has led me to a point where I feel like a bird sitting on the ledge of an open window: indescribably excited about the freedom in front of me, but also a little nervous about letting go and taking flight.

Sterling Silver Beads and Purple Silk Cord Bracelet

Sterling Silver Beads and Orange Silk Cord Bracelet Faceted Sterling Silver Bead and Blue Silk Cord Bracelet

Lois Hill Silk Cord Bracelets: I chose several pieces from Lois Hill’s Jivasukha Collection. Not only is it yoga inspired, but her pieces are elegant and well made. I’m a big fan of these bracelets of sterling silver beads strung with colorful silk cord. I love that each bracelet has a different little charm on it as well. Personally, I would wear them all together, but they also look good separately. My favorite are the purple, orange and blue bracelets.

Multi-Gemstone Sterling Silver Bangle Set

Sterling silver gemstone bangles are also beautiful. They go with everything and they have such a pleasing sound to them. I have bangles on both wrists, so I would probably wear three of these on one wrist and two on the other, but of course, this set also looks great stacked together.

Studs: The color of the pink topaz studs is unbelievable. They are truly enchanting. Topaz happens to also be my birthstone in November, so I have a special affinity towards it, and pink topaz is really special. But if pink isn’t your color, I also selected a pair of square diamond studs, which I think are pretty cool, as well as these classic solitaire diamond stud earrings. (I should add here that Ice only sells conflict-free diamonds and sources its diamonds from vendors that comply with the Kimberly Process.)

Namaste.

Fleur de Lys Jewelry

Are you familiar with the Fleur-de-Lys symbol? It’s a uniquely designed lily flower used as a symbol associated with French royalty. It’s been seen in countless coat of arms and flags for centuries. Today, people are often using it as a decorative design in home decor, fashion and now even in jewelry.

Ice has a few Fleur-de-Lys jewelry pieces that our customers are raving about. One of the latest colored diamond trends right now is green diamonds which are found in several of our newest Fleur-de-Lys pieces. Pictured right you’ll see a green and white diamond pendant featuring the beautiful symbol. If you’re looking for more of a statement piece then you’ll love this Fleur-de-Lys ring with green, white AND red diamonds. Love the little red diamond accents in this piece. It’s a wide ring that will instantly grab attention without being too flashy. Gorgeous!

If green diamonds are not your thing, maybe you’ll fall in love with black diamonds like I have. Take a look at this black & white diamond Fleur-de-Lys ring and this stunning black diamond pendant.

Would you wear the Fleur-de-Lys symbol? Next time, you put on this symbol and someone asks what it is, don’t forget to say Fleur-de-Lys with a French accent, it makes it more fun to wear. ; )

Ice Donates to Breast Cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every year,  Ice spreads the word about the disease and lends a helping hand. This year, we’re donating 10% of proceeds from our special Live Pink Collection of pink jewelry to the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC).

The NBCC has declared a deadline to end breast cancer, setting a  target of January 1, 2020. “This is not a new idea for us. Our mission for almost 20 years has been the eradication of breast cancer. For decades, we’ve been fighting cancer with hope. For decades the lives of our daughters, mothers, and friends have been in the hands of hope. It isn’t working. That’s why NBCC launched Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®, a call to action for policy makers, researchers, breast cancer advocates and other stakeholders to end the disease by January 1, 2020.  Today we have a strategic plan of action to achieve Breast Cancer Deadline 2020®.”

We’re proudly wearing pink throughout the month of October, and we hope you’ll join us.  Ice has a wide selection of pink jewelry from our Live Pink Collection that includes pink diamond stud earrings (pictured right), pink gold jewelry, pink sapphire jewelry & much more. When you place an order through the Live Pink Collection,  Ice will donate 10% of proceeds to NBCC.

And if you only do one thing, PLEASE be sure to get examined every year. Whether you do regular self-examination, clinical exam or a mammogram. It could save your life.

Colorful Gemstone Bracelets

Fall is filled with earth tone colors such as brown,  grey,  green, etc. but there’s always room to throw in some bright colors into the mix. Here’s a few of my favorite bracelets that will add an incredible boost of color to your outfit.

Topaz bracelet: It’s no doubt that blue topaz is one of our customer’s favorite gemstones and this bracelet alone made me a believer as to why so many women drool over this gem. The blue color is bright yet transparent and combined with silver makes this bracelet look a lot more pricey then it actually it is. See the bracelet for yourself. Very similar styles of this bracelet also come in purple amethyst, green amethyst and citrine.

Blue Topaz and diamond bracelet

Amber & Diamond Cuff: This orangy-yellow amber is more aligned with the traditional Fall colors we’re used to. I never really thought of amber in jewelry before I saw this piece and it’s matching amber necklace. It pleasantly surprised me how beautiful it was and I absolutely love the silver detail on this cuff bracelet.

Amber Diamond Cuff Bracelet

Amethyst, Topaz & Smokey Quartz (pictured right) is my new favorite bracelet. When I first put it on I didn’t want to take it off. I couldn’t stop staring at the gorgeous color combination of the blue topaz, purple amethyst and smokey quartz. Love it!

5 Fun Facts About Opals

October’s Opals are quite the unique gemstone. They definitely don’t resemble many of the traditional gemstones we’re most familiar with. For those who may not know much about Opals, I’m here to educate you on a few facts I’ve learned.

1. Play of Color: Opals are most commonly found in ‘white,’ however within these white opals there is a rainbow-like iridescence which changes the colors that appear in the stone depending on the angle it is viewed at.

2. Australia is the home to 97% of the opals found in the world. We’re glad the Aussies are not hogging these beautiful gems just for themselves. The other 3% can be found in Mexico, Brazil, China, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Japan, and the United States.

3. Caring for opals: Since this stone is medium to soft you should be extra careful with it. I would recommend if you are wearing an opal ring to remove it when cleaning, working out or doing any sports. Do not use any harsh chemicals to clean it – simply wipe with a damp cloth. If you will not be wearing your opal jewelry for awhile, store it in a small plastic bag with a wet napkin so it doesn’t dry out and crack.

4. The types of opals include white, black and fire opals. Both white and black have the play of color attribute however fire opals do not. Ice has stunning pink opal jewelry which would be a type of fire opal since there is no play of color.

5. Opals on Mars: A few years ago in 2008, NASA announced the discovery of opal deposits on Mars! Since opal is made up of mostly water this means that Mars may have been wet for billions of years than previously thought which indicates it may have supported life. Fascinating!

Happy birthday to all the October babies this month! Hope you get treated with some opal jewelry.

Weekly Roundup: Opals, Engagment Rings & Fan of the Week

I have to say I love talking to the Ice community on Facebook and Twitter. What a great bunch of people we’ve got. The feedback we get is wonderful and I wanted to share some of the most popular conversations with you.

What’s your Style?

Every week we select nine pieces of jewelry and ask our Facebook community to choose which of the items from the theme fit their personal style. This week’s theme was Opal rings – here are the top 3 styles the community voted on.

1. Opal & black diamond white gold ring (pictured ring)

2. Opal & pink sapphire white gold ring

3. Opal & Iolite white gold ring

Favorite Engagement Ring Cuts

We polled our Facebook community this week to asked “My favorite shape for a diamond or gemstone engagement ring is a _____ cut”. Every woman whether she’s engaged, married or single love talking about engagement rings. It’s probably the most important piece of jewelry many of us will own so we can’t help but get giddy over fantasizing what our dream ring would look like.

The women have spoken…55% prefer Princess cut (which is a square shape). I was surprised to see the second most popular cut was Emerald. Not sure if Kim Kardashian’s gigantic engagement ring she received less than a year ago had anything to do with it. Third place was Round cut. I’m happy that it only made it to 3rd so that means less women will have my future perfect engagement ring cut. Hope I didn’t jinx myself by writing it. ; )

Fan of the Week

Congrats to this week’s Fan of the Week – Jessica Humbert! She recently finished nursing school and celebrated with this beautiful pearl set from Ice including a necklace and earrings. “Nothing says classy like pearls! Looking forward to buying more classy jewelry from Ice” said Jessica. Enjoy the jewelry!

Indie Music Spotlight on Celleste

We’re excited to be partnered with some really talented up and coming musicians who’s music will be featured in our jewelry videos.

One of the first artists we’re working with, Celleste, is a high-voltage singer/songwriter with a rocker edge and a sultry sound.

This Montreal native recently released her debut CD “Ready To Fly”. We’re thrilled to be featuring many of the songs off of her album in our jewelry videos, including her song “Yer goin’ down”. Check it out as the soundtrack for one of our fave SNO of Sweden pieces.

Celleste is a true indie artist with a DIY attitude, starting her own label, Mighty Music, with her producer, Eric Dick. Her music is a blend of rock, folk, blues, country and pop, that she likes to call “Modern Classic Rock”. Celleste explains how she found her sound, “I’d often hear Led Zeppelin blasting in my brother’s room while dad was strumming Chet Atkins tunes in the basement… then I got my hands on [Lenny Kravitz’s] “Are You Gonna Go My Way”, and [Sheryl Crow’s] “Tuesday Night Music Club”. Throw in some CCR, Black Crowes and Janis Joplin, perform it all like Steven Tyler and Madonna, and presto… you know all my secrets.”

Check out her brand new video for “Beyond Words”

If you like what you hear (and how could you not!), show your support for Celleste by liking her on Facebook, following her on Twitter and downloading her album.

Rock on!

Elizabeth Hurley’s Sapphire Engagement Ring

We’re all familiar with the most famous sapphire engagement ring now owned to the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. But actress Elizabeth Hurley is giving Kate a run for her money with her new engagement ring. The 46 year old beauty announced her engagement to Australian cricket star Shane Warne the other day.

The bride-to-be was seen in St. Andrews, Scotland flashing a huge sapphire and diamond ring where Warne supposedly proposed. We caught a glimpse of the ring in PopSugar and couldn’t help but make the comparisons to Kate’s ring but Hurley’s ring is much more modern. The ring has a platinum setting with a ginormous 9-carat center blue sapphire accompanied by a 2-carat trillion cut diamond on each side. It’s quite stunning. Sapphire also happens to be Warne’s birthstone.

Would you like to be proposed to with a sapphire engagement ring?
