And the Next Ice Guest Stylist is… Katie Sanchez

Katie Sanchez is the mommy-blogger who recently won  our competition to be the next Ice Guest Stylist. She’s here is to discuss her winning Colorful Jewelry Collection.

Growing up, my jewelry collection was pretty boring. I went through a gold phase and then got into silver and platinum jewelry. I always kept it pretty simple, wearing diamond studs everyday. No extra color. Silver goes with everything, right? Well, sort of. In recent years, I have learned to love color.

I love to see how color can turn something plain into something beautiful. I love how just a little colorful accent can completely change an outfit. Often I’ll wear greys, browns or blacks and add in a bright necklace or bracelet to draw just enough attention. Color can be a confidence booster. I could hide behind my silver chain and diamond studs and blend in with everyone, or I could chance the attention that bright color brings. Who doesn’t love getting compliments on how they look?

That’s what my collection is about. Maybe it’s the amethyst pendant that draws out the purple tones in your blue eyes, or the ruby bracelet with a little black dress. It’s that little pop of color that doesn’t overwhelm, but makes a statement. Here are some of my absolute favorites from my collection.

Pink & White Sapphire Ring (pictured right): This pink ring is one of my favorite pieces that Ice sells. I love pink! Deep down, I’m very much a girly girl. Throw in this daisy bracelet and they’re two fun and casual pieces that go well with jeans and a t-shirt.

Gemstone Tennis Bracelets

I love the tennis bracelets in my collection (pictured above). I can visualize them being worn together with a bright top, or separately with a more formal outfit. This colored tennis bracelet and multi-gemstone ring (pictured below) would work well with a solid colored suit or dress to show your whimsical side even in a business setting.

Multi-Color Gemstone Ring and Bracelet

If there’s one thing I could emphasize with my collection, it’s that colorful jewelry can bring life to plain outfits and help your personality shine through, even in business attire. All of the pieces in the collection transition well from day to night and from casual to formal. They all have a personality of their own!

There is something about the Valencia dangle earrings that is very sexy. For an even more seductive look, where your hair up with them. These  dangle earrings come in green, blue & black Onyx, Carnelian and Smoky Quartz.

5 More Facts to Know About Amethyst

I know it’s hard to believe but February is already here and it’s the month of one of my favorite gemstones, Amethyst. Last year I mentioned a few fun facts about Amethyst and now I have a few more to share with you plus some tips about wearing Amethyst.

1. Beware of sunlight – If possible, try to avoid wearing natural amethyst stones in sunlight. These stones are quite sensitive and their color fades in direct sunlight or when put near heat. In certain lighting Amethyst can also appear colorless. So if you’re planning on vacationing on a beach, I’d recommend you leave your Amethyst jewelry safely at home.

2. Positive Aura – In India, they place an amethyst stone between the eyebrows to calm the mind and to help achieve inner peace and enhance positive energy. Indians claim it helps control emotions.

3. Stone of Love – Legend says that St. Valentine wore an Amethyst ring. In the Middle Ages, if a heart-shaped amethyst set in silver was given by a wife to her husband, it would bring the newlyweds happiness and peace of remainder of their lives.

4. Fit for royalty – Purple has long been associated as a royal color. Since this  rich color is found in Amethysts, this stone was often worn by royal families. The darker the stone, the more valuable it is. These days, royals do not wear amethyst as much since this stone has been discovered more frequently making it more affordable for us commoners.

5. Protection – Amethyst is said to protect against seduction and prevents you from getting too intoxicated when drinking alcohol. Some farmers also kept Amethyst on hand to protect their crops and others used it to protect against wild animals or in battle.

It’s always so interesting to read about all the facts and folklore on our favorite gemstones.

Top 5 Gold Looks at the SAG Awards

At last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards we noticed yellow gold accents everywhere! It’s no nice to see since white gold and silver has left it’s yellow alternative hanging in the background with most recent jewelry styles.  It’s time for it to shine again and here are some of our favorite looks from last night proving that yellow gold is back.

1. Viola Davis – The actress won the Leading Female Actor award for her role in “The Help”. She glowed on stage as she gave her inspirational acceptance speech in a white Marchesa. The strapless Grecian style gown with gold detail was accessorized with a lace design bangle very similar to this filigree design ring. More gold was seen in her dangling earrings that showed off beautifully with her hairdo.

2. Emma Stone – Viola’s “The Help” co-star also showed off some golden accents in her long drop earrings and her knuckle clutch. Her gown was a tea length Alexandre McQueen in black lace. Gold jewelry compliments her amber hair beautifully.

3. Angelina Jolie (pictured right) – The actress was also in black and gold with her long draped gown by Jenny Packham. She accessorized the shiny black dress with large gold hoops with black accents and a gold bangle bracelet.

4. Giuliana Rancic – After undergoing a double mastectomy just last month, this E! TV Presenter is already back to work and looking fabulous. Unlike the rest of the women on this list, Giuliana paired gold with a bright red gown making a dramatic look. A statement gold necklace grabbed our attention and was paired with a skinny gold belt for a little added flare.

5. Kyra Sedgwick – Another stunner in red paired this fiery look with yellow gold jewelry. Kyra got lots of attention for showing off her new tattoo peeking through her cut-out Emilio Pucci gown. All her jewelry was yellow gold but we had our eyes on her gold bracelets.

Feather Jewelry

The feather trend was picking up steadily last year but now a month into 2012 and fashionistas are flocking to grab onto this look. At first we saw many stars like Jessica Biel, Drew Barrymore, even Steven Tyler wearing feather pieces braided into their hair. The trend quickly moved to earrings and other feather jewelry. We also saw lots of feathers featured in gowns worn at the Golden Globes and People’s Choice Awards this month.

Ice has several new feather jewelry pieces that stand out from what you’re used to seeing. Typically you’ll notice people wearing actual feathers or imitation feather that often look cheap. Our designs replicate the beauty of feathers but with the use of red and white diamonds. I’m sure birds will appreciate us not plucking their feathers for jewelry and seeing their beauty shine through with diamonds.

I’d recommend wearing these pieces with earth tone clothing to compliment their natural color. Also, if you’re going to be wearing feather jewelry please refrain from pairing it with other feather clothing. The goal of this look shouldn’t be to look like an actual bird. So keep it to one feather piece per outfit.

What do you think of feather jewelry – will you wearing this trend?

Kanchan Couture

It’s so refreshing to see a burst of color in these cold winter months. I am loving our bright new pieces from the Kanchan Collection at Ice. “Adding a little spark of color to your waredrobe not only adds to your mood but also those around you.”  says designer Kanchan Panjabi.

Kanchan’s collection features gorgeous beads in jade, agate, quartz, crystal and pearl. A big part of her inspiration comes from her country of origin, India. “It all began with an image of my mother seated on a bike in 1960?s India. I fell in love with the image, as it portrays who I really am; my Indian roots yet a child of a hybrid world.”

These statement pieces help show off your personality with different charms on the bracelets such as flowers, music notes, etc. Other designs feature dangly beads that add a little extra pizzazz to these pieces.

January Birthstone: 5 More Facts About Garnet

I’ve mentioned to you in the past some fun facts about January’s birthstone – Garnet. After some digging I found some other great info on this gemstone.

1. Protection: Garnet was said to protect in the night. Whether you were an ancient traveler or just have a nightmare garnet would protect you and be used to light your way in the dark night.

2. Success:  It is believed that if your business is not as successful as it should be, you can place three garnets on your desk to bring you growth in your business.

3. Pomegranate: Garnet comes from the Latin word granatus, which many believe comes from malum granatum – the pomegranate plant. Garnets resemble the seeds of this fruit with it’s red tones and shape as you can see in the picture to the right.

4. Rhodolite and Tsavorite are two of the more popular types of garnet in jewelry, after the most common red garnet of course. Rhodolite is a beautiful raspberry red and tsavorite is a light green. Garnet also comes in other colors such as orange, yellow, brown and several more.

5. Largest Garnet in the world was found by a student in Australia in 1996. The single garnet was nearly 100 feet across!! I wonder how much jewelry could be made with that.

Drusy Jewelry

One of the hottest jewelry trends right now is drusy jewelry. This type of jewelry highlights a stone with a rock surface covered with tiny crystals that make a big impact. Think back to when you were a kid and found a cracked rock and it was all sparkly inside – drusy has a very similar look. It is most commonly found in Quartz stones.

What’s really appealing about these pieces is the raw shapes they come in. The more natural the stone looks, the more unique it is in my opinion. Drusy jewelry is one of our newest additions at Ice and very affordable ranging from $50-135.

Take a look at all our drusy jewelry and tell us what you think of this look. Would you wear it?

Laura Cheadle’s Boho-Chic Jewelry

Laura Cheadle is our newest Guest Stylist at Ice. This singer-songwriter has shared a stage with The Jonas Brothers, Sister Hazel & Spin Doctors to name a few. Here she is to discuss her Boho-Chic jewelry pieces.

I was raised by a musician father and an equally creative mother, my style has always been, what I like to describe as “Bohemian, Hippie Chic”. I still love to look elegant but I also adore those punches of color and really interesting designs. With Ice, I was able to easily find so many amazing pieces that pulled my style together perfectly!

Here are some of my favorite pieces from my Boho-Chic Jewelry Selections.

Shamballa Bracelet (pictured right) instantly grabbed my attention. This bracelet is the epitome of me as a performer in my element with the guitar in my hand and microphone in front of me.  I can close my eyes and picture myself on stage, wearing this bracelet with the spotlight shining on me and telling stories to the audience about my music.

Laura Cheadle Dangle Earrings

Multi-Gemstone Dangle Earrings: If you’ve ever met me, you’ll know immediately that I LOVE, LONG COLORFUL EARRINGS! I’ve always been drawn to multi-colored jewelry. I feel like it really boosts your look! I love to tell jokes and laugh on stage and I feel this really shows off my personality. I also can’t get enough of long dangling earrings and with my long hair and never ending dancing energy on stage, I feel these earrings are a perfect fit for me.

As a touring performer, I do many TV Appearances and one thing that a host never fails to comment on is the necklaces I wear. I wanted to choose a few that really fit my look:

Laura Cheadle Necklaces

Green Amethyst Pendant: There are many reasons why I chose this gorgeous pendant. My favorite color is green and my birth stone is Amethyst so those  are obvious reasons! With the Holidays approaching, this pendant would be a perfect gift (especially to yourself!) What is also unique about this piece is that I can wear it to a very upscale occasion or while on stage in an intimate concert setting.

Lois Hill necklace: This round granulated sterling silver necklace by designer Lois Hill is sexy yet subtle that will go with jeans or a dress. The design is a conversation starter and perfect for any media event I go on where I want to dress up different outfits.

Diamond Pisces Pendant: Not only am I a proud Pisces, but I feel like this necklace is very creative and artistic. I sing funky music and I could wear this necklace while I groove on stage.  Even though my sign is a Pisces, I’d easily wear the other sign pieces by Ice which are equally as cool!

I look forward to hearing what you think of my collection and hope you can wear these pieces and feel as great as I do!
