The Magnetic Power of Love

One of the latest collections at Ice is by designer Petra Azar who has created a line of beautifully crafted magnetic jewelry. You know how frustrating it could be to put on a necklace by yourself so this line of necklaces is the perfect solution.

I had the pleasure to chat with Petra Azar about her collection. Here’s what she had to say:

What makes your jewelry so unique?
This would definitely be my magnetic power clasp, which is totally different not only from a technical standpoint, but from a symbolic angle, as well.  The jewelry I design is practical in form, however it is the act of two halves coming together as one that is so compelling.

How did you come up with the idea to make magnetic clasps?
I wanted to be able to communicate the way two souls are drawn together inexplicably.  As a sculptor, my aim is to create art that expresses emotion in form and in function, and magnets are the perfect vehicle for this.

Can you tell us about the No Greater Love pieces (pictured right) and what it means to you?
The No Greater Love Collection has given me a way to share the bond that mothers and children share in such a prolific way.  As a mother and as a daughter, I understand the power of this relationship, and the reaction to this collection has been absolutely awe-inspiring.  Men, women, and children from all walks of life identify with this collection as it embodies the love that all of us experience as children and as parents.

Each piece of jewelry is engraved with a poetic message. Tell me about these engravings.
The meaning behind the engravings is two-fold.  First, as an artist, I am accustomed to signing every piece of art that I create, and my jewelry is no different.  Second, I hope to share with the wearer my intentions behind every piece.  An example would be from the United World and Minis collections: the We are One inscription speaks of my desire to unite people across the world in peace and love.  That inscription allows me to share my dream of unity with whoever wears a piece from these collections.

One of my favorite pieces from the collection is this black & white circle necklace. What was the inspiration behind this piece?
I wanted to express my dream of a truly united world, one in which old and young, rich and poor could come together and love one another.  The two halves are so different: one side is plain black, the other is luxurious and glamorous, yet when they come together, the result is a wonderfully balanced pendant.  My inspiration behind this piece, and behind my magnetic concept, was to demonstrate how love, an unseen, unspoken force, could unite the world, hence the We Are One inscription.

I love the fact that many of your pieces have a double chain that allows you to wear your necklace long or short. Great idea! Was it important for you to create multi-functional pieces?
Yes!  I have found that so many women, myself included, are limited by the jewelry that is out there today.  With my jewelry, there is no “right” way to wear it, only the way that makes you feel the most glamorous, the most put-together.  I encourage women to make my jewelry their own – wear it long or short, mix pieces from different collections, whatever your style might be.

What can we expect from you next? Looking forward to seeing more from the Petra Azar Collection.
With my newest collections, Evolution and Circle of Love, I took my inspiration from being a mother and a business-owner who needs to change her wardrobe constantly to fit any situation.  These collections feature convertible pendants that can be changed to suit any situation.  Not only practical, this concept gives women the opportunity to collect convertible elements that will remind them of a special time and place – weddings, the birth of a child, anniversaries, birthdays, each piece holds a beautiful memory.

New Fall TV Fashion to Look Out For

September is the month of season finale’s of your favorite summer TV shows like Entourage, True Blood and Breaking Bad but what we’ve all been waiting for is for our favorite Fall TV shows to premiere. So many Fall shows to keep your fashionable eye out for wardrobe inspiration. Here are some of our picks for most fashionable TV shows to stay tuned for.

Sneak Peak of Blake Lively on set of Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl: Blaire and Serena may be the Queen B’s of the Upper Eastside but they sure know how to dress. You can expect nothing but the best on them from huge designer purses, to big bold necklaces, rings, breathtaking dresses and shoes!! Spoiler Alert! The beautiful Elizabeth Hurley is joining the cast this season and I’m sure she’ll look fabulous.

New Girl: This is a new comedy starring my girl crush Zooey Deschanel. With a last name with Chanel in it you know it’s in her genes to be stylish. Zooey pulls of the adorably cute yet sexy look perfectly and after watching a preview for this show her personal style definitely shines through in her character Jessica Day. The premise of the show is Jessica catches her boyfriend cheating and then moves in with three single guys. Let the good times begin! Can’t wait to watch this.

Charlie’s Angels: Yup, they redid this classic and it actually doesn’t look bad. In the trailer I was pleasantly surprised with how stylish the angels are and loved the long dangly earrings they were sporting. How they run around in them, I don’t know, but they pull it off. I loved the movies with Drew Barrymore and she’s actually the producer of this series so it should be good.

Desperate Housewives: The final season of the show has arrived and the ladies of Wisteria Lane haven’t looked better. Gabrielle and Bree are always the most put together woman on the block in my opinion. I wonder if there will be any new additions to the cast we should be watching out for. I smell drama.

What shows are you most looking forward to watching this Fall?

Join the conversation, our Facebook fans are telling us who their favorite fictional TV character is (was) their fashion icon. Some of the favorites were Carrie from Sex & The City, Joan Holloway from Mad Men and Erica Kane from All M Children.

September’s Sapphires Resembling Taffeta

Sapphire RingHappy September everyone! Could you believe this month is already here? Most people hate the dreaded back to school month but it’s my birthday this month so I love September. :) Being a Virgo my birthstone is Sapphire…and what a beautiful birthstone it is. Kate Middleton might have introduced a new generation of jewelry-wearers to the blue gemstone but it’s been one of the most popular stones for centuries. Ice took the classic Sapphire look to a new level with this new Taffeta Collection.

For many of you who have worn gowns made of taffeta you must be familiar with the shimmery fabric that looks like it is made up of different colors. Ice replicated that look with this line of blue and pink Sapphire pieces. Each blue and pink piece has different shades of each color along with white Sapphires.

Do you like Sapphires? You might not know but Sapphires actually come in many colors other than blue such as pink, green, yellow, black and many more. View all our Sapphire jewelry here.

5 Tips for Wearing Rose Gold this Fall

One of the hottest jewelry trends right now is Rose Gold, also known as Pink Gold. It’s been around for centuries but it’s making a big comeback and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s gorgeous! This unique precious metal gives an instantaneous warm and romantic feel to any look.

I will be decked out in Rose Gold (and other pink metals such as Pink Rhodium) this Fall and wanted to share a few tips on how you can wear Rose Gold jewelry with your Fall wardrobe.

1. Match it with copper toned accessories. Rose Gold contains copper, actually all golds do because gold is such a soft metal. There is a higher level of copper in Rose Gold which gives it it’s warm color. So naturally any copper hued purses, belts or shoes would match beautifully with rose-hued jewelry.

2. Mix it Up! Cartier started the love affair with yellow, white & rose golds by creating a threesome of golds in one piece of jewelry. Since not many people might have one piece of jewelry with all three golds, it’s much easier to take what you already have to create this look. Put on white, yellow and rose gold bangles on your wrist or layer different colored gold necklaces in different lengths.

3. Wear it with Fall colored clothing in earth tones such as brown, tan and grey. Another fabulous color to pair it with is blue! What a stunning contrast this makes. Whether it’s navy, cobalt or turquoise, this look is very rich. Try it!

4. Nail the Rose Gold look by pairing rings with nude nail polish for a classic look. For a more matchy matchy look there are lots of polishes in rose gold hues – any metallic pink will work nicely.  For a more dramatic look you can pair our Morganite & black diamond ring with black nail polish which looks hot! If black polish is not your thing, you can try other dark polishes like charcoal for a deep contrast.

5. Pair it with diamonds! The combination of diamonds, whether they are white or black diamonds, with rose gold really makes the rosy color pop and the diamonds sparkle like crazy. It’s a gorgeous combination and we have plenty of Rose Gold pieces featuring diamonds to choose from.

We’d love to hear how you like to wear your favorite Rose Gold jewelry. Better yet, post a picture on our Facebook wall or Tweet it to us.

MTV VMA Highlights

There’s a reason why the MTV Video Music Awards doesn’t air around awards season with the Oscars, Grammys & Emmys. The VMAs are in a category of their own, they are loud, crazy and outrageous and we love it! This is the one night where music artists try to outdo the previous year’s performances and outfits. Yes, there are awards to be given out but that’s not why people tune in.

Some of the most memorable moments of the night were:

- Beyonce looking absolutely ravishing in a one-shoulder tangerine Lanvin gown showing off her baby bump. She accessorized her look with huge Emerald jewelry. Not only did she look fab on the red black carpet but she glowed on stage during her performance. I loved her sparkly sequin blazer which she unbuttoned at the end of the song and gave her baby bump a tummy rub leaving proud papa-to-be Jay-Z jumping up and down in excitement. So cute!

- Jo Calderone, the alter ego of Lady Gaga (who closely resembled Pony Boy from The Outsiders) opened the show with a way too long monologue and an entertaining performance of her new song. What didn’t sit well with most of the audience is that Gaga stayed in character the entire night leaving for some awkward moments with Britney Spears.

- Nicki Minaj took over for Lady Gaga’s wackiness this year but took it to a trashier level…literally…it looked like trash. I have no words to describe it so just look at the photo.

- Adele calmed the crowd down with her flawless performance of “Someone Like You”. She looked stunning in black and wowed the audience with her soulful voice. LOVE her!

What were your favorite moments of the VMAs?

Wear The Nautical Look on Labor Day

The rule is you can’t wear white after Labor Day. We are total rule breakers and encourage you to break this rule BUT if you want to keep with tradition we respect that. Keep the Summer alive with this nautical themed Labor Day outfit. Whether your celebrating the long weekend with a getaway or BBQ with family and friends this outfit is perfect for either.

You can easily get the nautical look by putting on those white jeans one last time this year with a cute striped tank and navy blazer to instantly create the perfect nautical look.

Add a touch of color with your accessories. For this outfit I chose red wedges, sunglasses and a splash of ruby red nail polish. Ice recently launched a collection of cuff bracelets called Tattooed Steel, one of which I added in this Polyvore set that complemented to color palette of this outfit. Also included in this set is the popular London Blue Topaz studs, these are beautiful!

Would you wear this look? Do you have any special plans for the Labor Day long weekend?

Labor Day!

Top 10 Alternative Rocks

We all know and love Diamonds. Most of us are familiar with birthstones such as Sapphires, Emeralds, Rubies, Topaz, etc. But what I want to talk about today are alternative rocks. There may be some stones out there that you don’t know about but you should. They are all beautiful and you should be adding a few to your jewelry collection.

1. Chalcedony has translucent tones with a wax-like luster that can be found in array of colors such as pink, yellow, blue and almost any color of the rainbow. Some variations of Chalcedony are Onyx and Agate.

2. Prehnite was a very rare gemstone until recently where there have been recent finds in Australia and China. Lucky us! It ranges in hues of greens, yellow and brown is said to have healing powers.

3. Amber is a great a color for Fall wardrobe, most often found in yellow, red and brown tones. Amber which is basically fossilized tree resin, is quite unique because chances are you might find leaves, insects, air bubbles and other foreign objects in it making your Amber jewelry one of a kind.

4. Opal is known for its shifting play of color glistening hues of many different colors in one stone. Most often seen in white but one of our favorite colors of Opals is pink! October’s birthstone originates mostly from Australia. Show your love for those Aussies by sporting some Opals!

5. Rose de France Amethyst is more on the lilac side rather than the more vibrant purple you’re used to seeing in traditional Amethyst.  It’s beautiful! That’s all you need to know!

6. Milky Aquamarine are opaque to translucent, not allowing light to pass through it completely like regular Aquamarines. A transparent Aquamarine is more valuable but the milky versions are just as beautiful. Set in sterling silver or white gold makes a stunning bold statement.

7. Tanzanite is a blue/purple stone that our Facebook fans go nuts for every time we mention it. This stone can be found in, you guessed it, Tanzania! You won’t find these stones anywhere else in the world so thank the lucky stars the nice people of Tanzania like to share.

8. Iolite is a transparent violet-blue stone that looks like different colors when looking from different angles. From certain angles it may also appear colorless. Iolites are a more affordable alternative that have a similar look to other blue stones such as Tanzanite and Sapphire.

9. Kyanite is another blue stone to keep on your radar. It is darker than Iolite, closer in color to Sapphire.

10. Morganite, my personal favorite alternative rock. Found in a pink to peachy color it looks absolutely gorgeous paired with Rose Gold. Love it! This stone is rare and not seen very often so when you find Morganite jewelry you love with it snatch it up quickly.

We’re put together a page at Ice of our favorite pieces featuring all the above gemstones.

Which alternative gemstone is your favorite?

Anne Hathaway Looking Classy in Lace

At the London premiere of One Day, Anne Hathaway pulled off yet another classic look in a lace capsleeve Alexander McQueen dress. It can be challenging to accessorize lace and most tend to go the safe route with pearls. Which looks great of course but I love Anne’s choice of using bold bangles to compliment her look.

She used bangles in gold hues which also matched nicely with her McQueen tan pumps and ivory & gold clutch. Her diamond stud earrings helped add a little sparkle to the look. Anne’s studs are quite large, so if you’re not ready to make the financial plunge to diamonds you can always replicate the look with CZs.

I have to say, Anne always manages to put together classy looks which is a nice change to see in such a young actress. Props to you Anne!

Have you seen her new movie One Day? We’ve put together a collection of jewelry inspired by the movie for you to check out AND it’s 20% off!

Gray Mist Collection

There’s something about a dark misty night that screams romance. Maybe it’s the old black & white movies that spark this feeling but I think Ice’s new Gray Mist Collection portrays just that image.

This collection includes earrings, rings and necklaces.  It is much darker than typical fine jewelry and it’s pairing with sparkly white diamonds making a sleek color contrast. The darkness comes from Black Rhodium plating which not many people might know but Rhodium is actually in the Platinum family and is used on silver and even gold jewelry to protect it.

I’m a big fan of long necklaces so naturally one of my favorite pieces in this collection is the 1 carat black & white diamond flower necklace. This necklace is 32 inches which is long enough to wrap around twice for layered look or of course you can leave it long. For an additionally dramatic look you can also use this necklace as a bracelet by wrapping it around a few times.

In my opinion, these pieces look great with an all black outfit or paired with a really bright outfit like Fall’s hot colors green and orange.

What do you think of the new Gray Mist Collection?
