Trends for Spring: Flower Power Floral designs can be sophisticated and chic

I have to come clean. I can’t hide it any longer. I have a bad, bad case of Spring Fever! We’ve had a couple of 60 degree, sunny days and I am completely ready to bring out the sandals and shorts! I’m getting way ahead of myself because spring doesn’t really start for another week or so. In some parts of the country there’s still a ton of snow on the ground. Well, just because it’s not quite yet spring officially, doesn’t mean that you can be ready for the warmer weather when it comes to your neighborhood.

Year after year one of the hottest trends for spring is floral inspired looks. This is kind of a no-brainer since flowers are out everywhere at springtime. To be honest, I generally think floral jewelry is for two kinds of females – older women and young girls. However, let me be the first to say that I have been proven wrong (yet again) with this sophisticated and chic flower ring. First of all, it’s just $65. This is a great price for a seasonal piece of quality jewelry. Uniquely elegant, this delicately crafted ring combines contrasting tones of precious metal. That means you can wear it with white and yellow gold, platinum, or silver jewelry – very versatile! A graceful floral design is gorgeously rendered in sterling silver and yellow gold. It’s even kinda sexy!

You don’t even have to give a second thought to, “what earrings will I wear with this ring?” That’s because this ring comes has a matching pair of sterling silver and yellow gold floral earrings. Just like the ring, these striking earrings are unique and very stylish. Delicate floral two-tone silver and gold earrings are a gorgeous combination for any outfit.

Together the ring and earrings combine to create a perfect spring look.

Classic Hollywood Glamour

Classic Hollywood Glamour Helen Mirren embodies classic Hollywood glamour

This year at the Oscars, there were loads of interesting looks. The Academy Awards are always a star-studded affair and many celebrities are drenched in borrowed gems for the occasion. You can get a run down of all the best of Oscar night jewelry fashions at Sparkle Like the Stars.

Alas, this year’s event reaffirms that old Hollywood is gone. The days of the likes of Elizabeth Taylor wearing her own jewelry to an event seem to be long gone.

What hasn’t faded is classic and classy glamour! Helen Mirren is class incarnate. When it comes to the Oscars, she can always be counted on to show up in something subtly fabulous and totally age appropriate. Her lavender gown with the gauzy overlay and sleeves take this dress a notch above average strapless. I absolutely covet that necklace!

Helen’s look is refined and restrained but definitely not boring. You can get a similar look by pouring on the diamonds with a bold and beautiful diamond necklace. If you choose a design that has some larger spacing between the stones you’ll get the effect of a more dramatic piece of jewelry without such a dramatic price tag.

As for earrings, you can’t go wrong with a pair of elegant diamond earrings. Don’t overdo it though with dramatic tear drop or chandelier earrings. Those are great for other occasions but if you want a classic look like Helen’s, you have to keep it simple.

For her ensemble, Helen forgoes a right hand diamond ring and just wears her diamond wedding bands. This is in keeping with the “less is more” refinement of her overall look. Just because it’s a fancy formal occasion, doesn’t mean you have to wear every ring you own. Take a few cues from Helen and you’ll get a sophisticated look all for you own.

In Like a Lion

March 08, 2010 - Post by icegrrl in categories: Diamond Necklaces, Jewelry Advice, Necklaces, Pendants, Silver Necklaces

In Like a Lion Black Diamond Sterling Silver Aries Pendant

Do you know the origin of the weather proverb about March, “in like a lion, out like a lamb”? For most locations in the northern hemisphere, the average temperature at the end of the month is higher than at the beginning (more gentle than the biting, fierce winter), so the proverb typically has some meteorological truth to it. But where did it come from?

The phrase apparently has its origins with the constellations Leo, the Lion, and Aries, the ram or lamb. It has to do with the relative positions of these constellations in the sky at the beginning and end of the month.

Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun is in the constellation Aries roughly from March 21 to April 19, by definition beginning at vernal equinox or the first day of spring.

If someone in your life has a birthday between March 21 and April 19, you should consider a zodiac glyph pendant as a unique and memorable birthday gift. The black diamond sterling silver Aries pendant pictured here is beautifully rendered in brushed and polished sterling silver and highlighted with dazzling enhanced black diamonds. It is truly budget friendly at only $125.

If black diamonds are too racy for you, consider this Aries pendant delicately cut out of a brushed sterling silver disc and with a single accent diamond for just a touch of sparkle. A zodiac pendant is a thoughtful keepsake she is sure to love.

Fashion Advice From: Baristas

March 05, 2010 - Post by icegrrl in categories: Jewelry Advice, Jewelry Trends, Pearls

Fashion Advice From: Baristas Yes, even coffee has style

Baristas. They see us bleary eyed in the morning, or bleary eyed staring into our identical macbooks all afternoon. But rest assured, they see much more than that.

I recently had a chat about fashion with Sal, 31, Barista at Jumpin Java cafe in San Francisco.

Here’s what he had to say:

You see a lot of people come through here, what styles are you loving right now?
Truthfully, style is all in the attitude. I can see two people come in wearing essentially the same things, but one person just owns it. That’s the secret, you just gotta own it. Other than that, bright colors are popping back out as we get closer to spring, and I love that.

Do you get to show off your own style at work, and what would you call it?
I call it the IceBreaker. I tend to refashion a lot of clothes I find in my own way, and that can be a great conversation starter, even early in the morning, before people have had their coffee.

Who have been your fashion Inspirations?
Mostly? Vivanne Westwood and Alexander McQueen. Vivianne saw that great punk-rock aesthetic of the 1970’s and took it to the mainstream in a way that was fun and irreverent, but still demanded to be taken seriously. And McQueen was just so inventive. He’d take these traditional patterns and just blow them out and animate them in a way that was so freeing. I’ve learned a lot of the two of them.

What do you think is the best way to incorporate a great piece of jewelry into a fabulous outfit?
Oh honey, when you have a great piece of jewelry, you build your outfit around THAT, not the other way around. Seriously, in my world, jewelry always comes first.

Ok, what kinds of jewelry do you see that are really hot right now?
In a word? Pearls. When I was growing up, pearls were for nice girls and grandmothers, but I’ve really seem them get a total makeover the past while. Particularly colored pearls. These gorgeous young women are coming in with green pearls, pink pearls, purple pearls and totally turning heads. All of a sudden pearls are fun and fresh and funky like they never were before. Who knew?

Earrings and cocktail rings make Glamour’s top 10 list

March 04, 2010 - Post by Ice Jewelry in categories: Diamond Earrings, Diamond Jewelry, Diamond Necklaces, Diamond Rings, Emeralds, Jewelry Advice, Pearl Rings

Earrings and cocktail rings make Glamour’s top 10 list Large earrings are pitch-perfect this season.

Glamour magazine recently released a list offering their take on the "10 Most Glam Wardrobe Items. Ever." Though we think that every girl has her own top- 10 must haves (which is what makes style so fun and interesting), we were curious to see what the veritable fashion source listed among their favorites.

So, you might ask, which jewelry items made the list? Dangly earrings and cocktail rings were the sparkling accessories that Glamour saw fit to highlight, and we kind of agree.

Chandelier earrings are the fastest way to take any outfit from blah to bam in no time flat. Whether you like to wear your hair up, down, straight or curly, a hint of flash or color will draw attention to your face and neck, and make you look like a fashion plate even on days when you had to dash out of the house.

As for cocktail rings, where do we begin?

From emerald sparklers to pearl or diamond-encrusted rings, no fancy outfit is complete without a pretty cocktail ring twinkling and shimmering on your finger.

What do you guys think? Let us know which jewelry pieces you couldn’t dream of living without!

Great jewelry is the key to looking and feeling great this spring!

March 04, 2010 - Post by Ice Jewelry in categories: Bracelets, Categories, Jewelry Advice, Necklaces, Pendants, Watches, earrings

Great jewelry is the key to looking and feeling great this spring! A single bracelet goes a long way

Hoping to stand out a little when the spring weather hits? Believe it or not, there’s more to looking hot than picking all the right clothes. What good will a beautiful, sexy black pencil skirt do for you if it’s paired with hum-drum jewelry?

This season, the secret to appearing like you spent hours getting ready will begin with three little words: jewelry, jewelry, jewelry.

One of the most time-efficient ways to look completely glamorous is to don a statement necklace or bold earrings, no matter what time of day it is. If you’re headed to work, try a casual silver chain with a heart-shaped pendant. For nighttime, make sure that your earrings sparkle.

Also, don’t forget about the magic of a reliably sexy set of bangle bracelets. Even during daytime hours, a little jangle on your wrists can lift your spirits almost as much as the warm weather.

Of course, a watch is a dramatic addition to any spring wardrobe. Match a plain-Jane black shirt with a shimmery watch and you’re golden!

Whatever you decide, make sure that your accessories are comfortable to wear. Fashion does not need to be painful!

3 jewelry essentials for this season

March 04, 2010 - Post by Ice Jewelry in categories: Gem Necklaces, Gold Jewelry, Jewelry Advice, Watches, earrings

3 jewelry essentials for this season A chunky watch will come in handy this spring.

The runways have been full of floaty dresses and pastel prints, but the jewelry that’s poised to become popular in the coming seasons is anything but subtle.

Here are three essentials that every girl should outfit herself with before heading out to frolic in the sunshine.

1. A long statement necklace. You know that we have been singing the praises of statement necklaces for a while, but a long, grounding chain will be key for any ladies who don’t want to look like they wandered off the set of a Disney movie in one of the season’s girlish frocks. Go for a simple thick chain or spice things up with a long layered necklace embellished with gemstones.

2. A chunky watch. We prefer gold watches, because it’s coming back in a big way and has a vintage charm, but if you’re a silver or stainless steel girl, go for it. Just choose a timepiece that will add a hip edge to your more feminine pieces.

3. Bold earrings. If you prefer chiffon or silk ensembles, large earrings with enamel embellishments in floral designs will be the perfect complement to your style. And this season, you can feel free to go as bold as you want (within reason . . . if they’re bigger than your fist you might have taken things a little too far!).

Will Alice in Wonderland inspire a rise in girlish jewelry?

March 03, 2010 - Post by Ice Jewelry in categories: Bracelets, Gold Jewelry, Gold Necklaces, Jewelry Trends, Pearl Earrings, Pearl Necklaces

Will Alice in Wonderland inspire a rise in girlish jewelry? Fans of Alice in Wonderland may sport jewelry similar to that of the heroine.

Many moviegoers are excited to see the latest Tim Burton film, Alice in Wonderland, on the big screen.

The director’s stylized take on the timeless tale is sure to inspire the fashion world, and we’re betting that this spring will see a rise in simple and girlish jewelry as a result of the film.

The film follows 19-year-old Alice (Mia Wasikowska) as she makes her way down the rabbit hole for a second time and finds herself embroiled in a subversive plot against Wonderland’s cruel and greedy Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter).

Alice is the epitome of Edwardian grace and simplicity, and as such we expect that she might inspire a few clean-cut and simple ensembles accessorized with classic pearl earrings, a delicate gold locket or a sweet and simple charm bracelet.

In the film itself, Alice sports a sparkling gold charm on a thin gold chain.

If there are any garden parties or casual soirees in your future, channel the sweet and chic literary character’s style for a totally fresh look.

Time for Saint Patrick’s Day Fun

March 01, 2010 - Post by icegrrl in categories: Gem Earrings, Gem Necklaces, Gem Pendants, Gem Rings, Jewelry Advice, Jewelry Trends, Necklaces, Silver Jewelry, Silver Necklaces, jewelry

Time for Saint Patrick’s Day Fun Saint Patricks Day is right around the corner!

Don’t get pinched this Saint Patrick’s Day; be sure you’re wearing some green! While an entire green outfit might make you look like a Christmas elf rather than a harbinger of spring, it’s easy to add just a touch of green with the right accessories.

You could really get into Saint Patrick’s Day with a clover design sterling silver pendant. Polished green agate and diamond accents in this pendant won’t pinch your wallet either at just $85.

When lots of folks think of green jewelry they think of emeralds. Emeralds have a beautiful, intense and radiant green. The green of the emerald is the color of life and of springtime. They’re definitely a great way to add green to any outfit this spring.

For a fresh and modern look this Saint Patrick’s Day, you could try a less traditional gemstone like green chrome diopside. Lush green tones sparkle gorgeously in this elegantly unusual diopside pendant. While perfect for springtime, this pendant’s bright green color will carry you right into sunny summer days. Honestly, it would even be a great choice for parties. It’s definitely a versatile piece for your jewelry collection.
